Content Strategy ✳︎ Community Building ✳︎ Engagement ✳︎

Introduction

I developed and managed the content strategy for a career platform focused on helping job seekers discover flexible and remote work opportunities.

My role spanned audience engagement, content planning, editorial strategy, and using performance insights to continually refine the content approach.

Building an audience

Creating Engagement

Challenge

The challenge wasn’t just to build an audience. I needed to create an engaged career community.

Job seekers needed practical, relatable content that addressed their real experiences while giving them reasons to return, participate, and connect.

The content strategy was designed around the real needs of job seekers, not simply promoting opportunities. I developed a mix of practical career advice, remote-work education, job-search guidance, and relatable content to attract people at different stages of their career journey.

The result was a content ecosystem that positioned the platform as a useful, approachable resource rather than just another job-search channel.

Content pillars

  • Career & job-search tips

  • Remote work education

  • Job opportunities

  • Career stories & experiences

  • Community-focused content

Content was created to encourage people to participate, not just consume. I used relatable career experiences, conversation starters, questions, and practical advice to create opportunities for the audience to share their own experiences and perspectives.

This helped shift the platform from a one-way content channel into a space where job seekers could ask questions, exchange experiences, and feel part of a wider career community.

Engagement formats

  • Story-led posts

  • Audience questions & prompts

  • Career conversations

  • Job-search experiences

  • Community success stories

Approach

01 Build around audience needs: Created content around the questions, frustrations, and goals shaping the job-search experience.

02 Make content conversational: Used relatable stories, practical advice, questions, and community experiences to encourage meaningful engagement.

03 Let performance shape the strategy: Reviewed reach, saves, shares, comments, and other engagement signals to identify the topics and formats resonating most with the audience.

04 Turn insights into an editorial system: Translated audience insights into content pillars, recurring formats, and a structured content calendar that balanced education, engagement, and platform-focused content.

Using Insights

Content performance provided a continuous feedback loop for the strategy. I monitored reach, views, comments, saves, and shares to understand which topics and formats generated the strongest response.

These insights helped identify patterns in audience behaviour and informed decisions about what to create more of, what to refine, and how to balance educational, relatable, and promotional content.

Key signals

  • Reach & views

  • Saves & shares

  • Comments & conversations

  • Audience response to different topics

  • Performance by content format

Planning & Executing the Content Strategy

I translated audience needs and performance insights into a structured editorial strategy. Content pillars established clear themes, while recurring formats made it easier to maintain consistency and create a recognizable content experience.

The editorial calendar brought these elements together, balancing educational content, community conversations, practical resources, and platform-focused content across the publishing schedule.

Strategy framework

Audience needs → Content pillars → Formats → Editorial calendar → Performance insights → Iteration

Outcome

The content strategy helped establish a stronger connection between the platform and its audience, with story-led and conversation-driven content generating meaningful engagement alongside practical, highly shareable career guidance.

By combining audience feedback with performance insights, I was able to develop a more intentional content mix—one that balanced connection, utility, and community participation rather than relying on promotional content alone.

What I learned

The strongest content strategy isn't built around a single winning format. It comes from understanding why people respond.

Personal stories created connection. Practical guidance created value. Conversation-led content created participation.

This project reinforced the importance of combining qualitative audience signals with content performance data and using both to continually refine the editorial strategy.
